Domino’s is bringing back its Cadbury Creme Egg for a second time following a sellout debut in 2024 — but some may not be pleased to see it return.

The indulgent dessert, which contains a whole Creme Egg, found itself at the centre of a surprising political controversy last year.

In a series of scathing tweets, Lord Bethell of Romford, a Conservative politician in the House of Lords, blasted the concept as ‘disgusting’.

‘A whole Cadbury Creme Egg in a Domino’s cookie?’ he continued. These are serious corporate food companies. What are they thinking? The executive team, the board, and the shareholders should be ashamed of themselves.’

He added that while not illegal, the treat is ‘harmful’ and reiterated that the board should be ‘ashamed’.

Not everybody shared Lord Bethell’s outrage though, including @nicclesb who responded: ‘James, you’re shouting at baked goods.’

Some also came away with the opposite conclusion and were eager to try the gooey desert themselves, with @LyndonRosser commenting: ‘Where do I get one? Thanks for alerting us all to this marvellous item.’

Another, @MattWalls99, said: ‘I need to try one of these,’ while @JeremyWesthead added: ‘Oh wow. That looks amazing.’

Priced at £6.99 for a box of two, the cookies are intended for sharing, described by Domino’s as ‘sheer indulgence’, with a ‘decadent combo of chocolate chips, vanilla and creamy cookie dough’.

‘They’ll change your life,’ claims the fast food chain.

Those who want to try them will have to be quick though, as they’re available for a limited time only, and previously sold out in a matter of days.

If you’ve got the craving, you can get your hands on these divisive treats via the Domino’s app, website or in stores across the country until April 20.

Louise Pilkington, director of innovation at Domino’s, said: ‘There’s a reason Domino’s Cookies made with Cadbury Creme Egg are back for the second year in a row.

‘They were an instant hit last year, and we know you’ll love them just as much this time around.

‘This partnership is a match made in dessert heaven. Combining our iconic cookies with the gooey delight of Cadbury Creme Egg creates an indulgent experience like no other. This is a delicious reunion not to be missed.’

What we thought

Metro’s specialist food writer Courtney Pochin tried the controversial cookies last year. She wrote: ‘There’s nothing better than a hot cookie fresh from the oven, where the chocolate is gloriously glossy.

‘This gives you that experience, but for me, the goo of the Creme Egg ruins the whole thing because of its weird texture when heated up. There’s a reason fondant is usually eaten cold.’

Deputy first person and opinion editor Ross McCafferty wasn’t a fan either, describing the dessert as ‘an assault on your teeth, your blood sugar levels, and frankly your state of mind’.

But first person and opinions editor Jess Austin felt otherwise.

She wrote: ‘I’ve had a deep-fried Creme Egg before, and I prefer this. It feels less sickening, and I honestly find the gooey centre even better when hot. Not that it looks appealing.’
